Terms of Service
First drafted in 2025. Updated and in force from 6 August 2026. Governed by Norwegian law. Revision history
In plain language
You pay $89 a year and it renews automatically until you cancel. We register and hold the domain as your trustee because Norid requires a Norwegian entity. You control the DNS, the site and the email. Norid’s rules sit above everything written here. Cancelling is one email, with no fee.

Accepting these terms
Placing an order, completing payment or otherwise using the Services means you have read and accepted this Agreement. If you do not accept it, do not order.
If you are ordering for a company, you confirm you have authority to bind that company. We are entitled to rely on that without checking.
Ticking a box, clicking a payment button or confirming by email carries the same legal weight as a signature under Norwegian law.
What the service actually is
We are a Norwegian registered business operating inside the framework Norid sets. Norid requires a Norwegian entity to hold a .no domain. Norid’s rules do not address trustee arrangements; ours is a private agreement between you and us, with the domain registered to us under Norid’s ordinary rules.
Norid’s rules come first. They override anything in this Agreement, anything we have said elsewhere, and any expectation you may have formed. We will not act against them, and nothing here should be read as promising otherwise.
The Services give you user rights to a .no domain under a trustee arrangement. They do not transfer legal title to you, because the registry does not permit that. We appear as holder of record out of necessity. All operational, economic and commercial rights are contractually yours.
The standard service covers registration with Norid, trustee administration, DNS and nameserver management, renewal handling, monitoring, and email support for as long as the subscription runs.
Who can order
You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, or be a validly formed legal entity. By ordering you confirm that is true.
Certain domain names are reserved or restricted under Norid’s naming policy. We cannot guarantee any particular name will be available, and we are not liable if a name turns out to be unavailable or is taken by someone else first.
Making sure your chosen name does not tread on someone else’s trade mark or business name is your job, not ours. We do not run trade mark searches and we take no responsibility for disputes arising from the name you pick.
We may decline any order at our discretion, including where a name looks likely to break the law, infringe someone’s rights or breach Norid’s rules.
Orders and registration
Your order is an offer to buy. A binding contract for a specific domain forms when we confirm the order in writing and payment has cleared. Until then we may decline or cancel it.
Once payment clears we aim to complete registration with Norid within twelve business hours on Norwegian working days. That is a target rather than a guarantee, since Norid system availability and verification steps are outside our hands.
On registration you receive confirmation and DNS access. From that moment the DNS configuration, hosting choices and everything technical downstream are yours.
We are not liable for losses caused by a delay in registration, including commercial losses during any period the domain is not yet live.
Fees, billing and automatic renewal
The price is $89 per year, in US dollars. The Norid registration charge is inside that price. There is no setup fee, no separate registry fee and no administrative surcharge on the standard service.
$89 today, then $89 every 12 months until cancelled.
The subscription renews automatically. Your card is charged again each year at the billing arrangement you selected at checkout, and it keeps renewing until you cancel. We email a reminder before each renewal so the charge is never a surprise.
Payment is taken in advance by Stripe, our payment processor. We do not see, handle or store your card details. Registration does not begin until payment has cleared.
Refunds, including the 14 day right of withdrawal and the treatment of the non-recoverable registration fee, are set out in the Refunds and Cancellation policy. That policy forms part of these terms.
Your first year is the price you paid and we do not change it. From the second year onwards the renewal price may rise, but only by a reasonable amount and only for a reason we put in writing. A change applies from a future renewal, never retrospectively, and we give you at least 60 days’ notice before it takes effect so you can move the domain elsewhere under Section 11 or cancel instead. Both are free.
Cancellation
Cancel at any time by emailing contact@norwaydomain.no. No fee, no notice period, no minimum term.
Cancelling stops future charges. The domain remains live for the rest of the period you have paid for, then it is decommissioned and returned to Norid’s pool. Once released, anyone may register it.
On decommissioning, DNS zone files, nameserver configuration and account data are permanently deleted from our systems. Take a copy of anything you want to keep before your paid period ends.
If a renewal payment fails we will not let the domain lapse without at least 30 days’ notice and two reminders to the address on file. If it is still unresolved after that, we may treat the subscription as ended and release the domain. Keeping your card and email details current avoids this entirely.
What we need from you
- Give accurate information when you order, and tell us within 14 days if your name, email, phone or address changes.
- Follow Norid's rules as they apply to registering, holding and using a .no domain.
- Use the domain lawfully, in line with Norwegian law and with Section 9 below.
- Tell us straight away if you receive a legal notice, cease and desist, court order or complaint about the domain.
- Make sure anyone you give access to the domain is bound by terms at least as strict as these.
- Keep payment details current so renewals go through.
- Do not tell anyone you hold formal registry title to the domain, because under Norwegian registry law you do not. Your rights are contractual, and they are real, but they are not registry title.
Acceptable use
Everything published through the domain is your responsibility. We exercise no editorial control over your site or email and take no responsibility for what is on it.
The following are prohibited outright and count as a serious breach:
- Content that is unlawful, defamatory, obscene, fraudulent, threatening or abusive under Norwegian or international law.
- Anything that constitutes or assists cybercrime, phishing, identity theft, unauthorised access or the spread of malware.
- Infringing someone else's intellectual property, trade marks or copyright.
- Bulk unsolicited email, or any activity that dumps abusive load on other people's infrastructure.
- Anything that would put us in breach of Norid's rules or damage our standing with the registry.
- Domain parking, speculative squatting or bad faith registration as understood under the WIPO dispute resolution policy.
Breach of this section is a serious breach. Where the use is clearly unlawful, or where a court, Norid or the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee tells us to act, we may suspend immediately and without refund. In every other case Section 12 applies: we write to you first and give you 14 days to put it right.
Intellectual property
Our website, branding, systems and documentation remain ours. Nothing in this Agreement licenses any of it to you.
Everything you publish through the domain remains yours. We claim no licence over your content beyond what is technically necessary to run the service, such as caching DNS records.
You confirm that the content you publish is yours to publish, and you will cover us for any claim arising from an infringement connected to the domain.
Transfers and resale
Changing registrar is free and always available. We move the domain to any Norid accredited registrar you name, at any time, at no charge, and we submit the change within two business days. We remain listed as holder while it moves, so your own eligibility does not come into it.
Changing holder is a separate step. You can direct us to transfer the domain to anyone who qualifies under Norid’s rules: your own Norwegian company, a Norwegian individual, a buyer, or another trustee service. Tell us in writing who is taking it on and give us their contact details. We charge nothing for this and we do not withhold consent unreasonably. Until Norid confirms the transfer, we remain the registered holder.
The one thing we cannot do is put a foreign person or company on the holder record, because Norid will not register one. That is Norid’s rule, not ours. Until you either name a registrar or qualify to hold a .no domain yourself, we go on holding it for you.
Your right to use the domain is personal to you and cannot be assigned or sublicensed to someone else without telling us first. Section 6 of the Trustee Agreement sets all of this out in full and governs if the two ever differ.
Suspension and termination
We may suspend or terminate the Services where:
- A court, Norid, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee or a regulator instructs us to suspend or decommission the domain.
- The use of the domain is clearly unlawful, or breaches Norid's rules or Section 9 of these terms.
- You materially breach this Agreement and, where the breach can be fixed, do not fix it within 14 days of written notice.
- You gave false or materially incomplete information and do not correct it within 14 days of written notice.
- A renewal payment is still unresolved after the notice and reminders described in Section 7.
Everything except the first two gets a warning first. Apart from a binding instruction from a court, Norid, the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee or a regulator, and apart from use that is clearly unlawful, we write to you first, explain the problem and give you 14 days to fix it. We do not suspend for anything curable without giving you the chance to cure it.
On termination for breach, fees already paid are not refunded, and DNS records, zone files and account data are deleted. Rights and obligations that arose before termination survive it.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent Norwegian law allows, our total liability under this Agreement, however it arises, will not exceed the total fees you paid us in the twelve months before the event that caused the claim.
We are not liable for any of the following, whether foreseeable or not:
- Lost profits, lost revenue, lost savings or lost business opportunity.
- Loss of goodwill or damage to reputation.
- Loss or corruption of data.
- Indirect, consequential, special or punitive loss of any kind.
- Loss caused by changes to Norid's rules, Norwegian law or registry policy.
- Loss caused by events genuinely beyond our control.
Nothing here limits liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Indemnity
You agree to cover us against claims, losses, damages, liabilities and reasonable legal costs arising from your use of the domain, your breach of this Agreement or of Norid’s rules, infringement of a third party’s rights through your choice or use of the domain, and any proceedings brought against us because of what you did with it.
This obligation survives the end of the Agreement.
Privacy
We process personal data under the GDPR as incorporated into Norwegian law. Your data is used to run the service, take payment, send renewal notices and meet our legal obligations, and for nothing else.
We do not sell or rent personal data. Data goes to Norid where registration requires it, and to Stripe as far as necessary to take payment.
Registry privacy is on by default, so our details appear in the public Norid record rather than yours, except where Norid’s rules or a lawful order require otherwise. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Changes to these terms
We may amend these terms where Norwegian law, Norid’s rules or the practical running of the service require it.
Material changes are emailed to your registered address at least 14 days before they take effect, and published here with a new date. If you do not want to be bound by a change, tell us before it takes effect and cancel instead.
Governing law and disputes
This Agreement is governed by Norwegian law. The Norwegian courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute arising from it.
Before anyone starts proceedings, both sides agree to try to sort it out directly. Either of us can start that by writing to the other, and we then have 30 days to reach something workable. In our experience that is usually enough.
Consumers in Norway keep their right to bring a complaint to the appropriate consumer body regardless of anything in this section.
Severability, waiver and the whole agreement
If a court finds any provision invalid or unenforceable, that provision is cut back to the minimum extent needed and the rest carries on unaffected.
If we do not enforce a right straight away, that is not a waiver of it. A waiver counts only if we put it in writing.
This Agreement, together with the Trustee Agreement, the Refunds policy and your order confirmation, is the entire agreement between us, and replaces anything said or written before it on the same subject.
