A site that ranks in its home market does not rank in Norway by virtue of being translated. Norwegian buyers search in Norwegian, with their own vocabulary, and Norwegian Google weighs signals that a foreign site rarely carries.
What is provided
- Search research
- The terms Norwegian buyers use for your products or services, with their search volumes, the pages that currently rank for them, and the terms worth pursuing first.
- Page work
- Titles, descriptions, headings and body text on the Norwegian pages written or corrected to match those terms, in natural Bokmål rather than translated English.
- Technical setup
- Language and country targeting, hreflang between language versions, the .no domain and its redirects, and the structured data a Norwegian listing draws on.
- Local signals
- Prices in kroner, Norwegian delivery and returns information, and the company details Norwegian buyers look for before they order.
- Publisher coverage
- Editorial mentions and articles in Norwegian publications, blogs and industry sites that are read by your buyers.
Norwegian search
Norwegian search differs from English-language search in three respects that decide the outcome of the work.
- Vocabulary
- Norwegian joins compound nouns into a single word and uses terms that do not correspond to the English ones. A term translated directly from English is frequently not the term that is searched.
- Volume
- Search volumes are small in absolute terms. A term searched a few hundred times a month in Norway can carry the commercial weight of a far larger term elsewhere, and is often contested by fewer sites.
- Trust signals
- Norwegian buyers look for a .no address, prices in kroner and an identifiable company before ordering from a business they do not know. Their absence affects both ranking and conversion.
The background to these points is set out in SEO in Norway for foreign companies.
Publisher coverage
Coverage is secured through direct contact with Norwegian publishers, bloggers and site owners with whom we have worked over several years. Each placement is proposed to you before it is pursued, with the publication, its readership and the intended subject.
Placements are editorial and are labelled in accordance with the Norwegian Marketing Control Act where payment is involved. Links are not bought in bulk, placed on networks built for the purpose, or exchanged. Those practices breach Google’s spam policies and expose the site to the loss of the rankings the work was intended to build.
Method
- 01
Assessment
The site is reviewed as it stands in Norwegian search: what ranks, what does not, and what is missing from the Norwegian pages.
- 02
Research
The Norwegian terms for your products or services are identified and prioritised by volume, competition and commercial intent.
- 03
Proposal
A written plan listing the pages to be created or changed, the technical corrections and the publications to be approached, with a fixed quotation.
- 04
Implementation
The page and technical work is carried out directly where access is given, or supplied as finished text and instructions for your developers.
- 05
Coverage
Publishers are approached for the agreed placements. Each confirmed placement is reported with its address and publication date.
Reporting
Reports are issued in English. They state the positions held in Norwegian Google for the agreed terms, the Norwegian search traffic to the site, the changes made during the period, and the placements secured. Figures are taken from Google Search Console and the analytics platform in use on the site.
Scope
Appropriate where
- The company is established outside Norway and sells, or intends to sell, to Norwegian customers.
- Norwegian pages exist, or are being produced, and are not found in Norwegian search.
- The site ranks in its home market and Norway is being added as a market.
- Coverage in Norwegian publications is required alongside search work.
Not appropriate where
- The site has no Norwegian pages and none are planned. Norwegian pages can be produced first under translation and localisation.
- The requirement is paid search advertising rather than organic search.
- Guaranteed positions are required. No search engine permits them to be guaranteed.
- The requirement is for links in volume rather than editorial coverage.
Cost
Quoted after the assessment, from the number of pages involved, the competition for the terms pursued and the number of placements sought. Work is quoted either as a defined project or as a monthly engagement over an agreed period. The figure is fixed before work begins.
Where the Norwegian pages are also being written by us under Norwegian translation and localisation, or the site is built by us under website design and management, the search work is quoted within that engagement.
The remaining services are listed on the services page.
Making an enquiry
The address of the site, the Norwegian pages it has or intends to have, and the products or services to be found for. A proposal and a fixed quotation are issued in response.
