Trustee Agreement
This agreement governs the relationship between NorwayDomain and you, the client, when we act as your trustee for a .no domain registration.
Parties & Service Description
This contract is between NorwayDomain (the trustee) and you, the client. NorwayDomain is a Norwegian-registered entity operating fully within the legal framework established by Norid (Norids Internett AS), the official authority responsible for administering the .no top-level domain. As a Norwegian entity in good legal standing, NorwayDomain holds the right to act as a trustee and to register .no domains on behalf of foreign clients under Norid’s trustee provisions. Norid’s rules are absolute — they govern all .no domain registrations without exception, and nothing in this agreement overrides them.
The service constitutes a user-rights arrangement, not a transfer of legal title. Norid does not permit foreign individuals or companies to hold .no domains directly — the trustee model is the only legitimate route available. By placing an order you confirm that you have read and understood these terms.
Your Rights as the Domain Holder
Although NorwayDomain appears as the registered holder of record, your rights are protected by this written agreement. You are entitled to:
- ✓Full operational control — DNS management, nameservers, redirects and hosting decisions are entirely yours.
- ✓All economic rights to the domain, including the right to use it commercially.
- ✓Priority right to request a formal ownership transfer if you later obtain a valid Norwegian organisation number or personal ID number (PID) recognised by Norid.
- ✓The right to cancel the service at any time, subject to the notice period in Section 4.
Restrictions & Prohibited Actions
To protect the integrity of the trustee arrangement and comply with Norid rules, the following are not permitted without prior written consent from NorwayDomain:
- ✕Resale of the domain — transferring or selling the domain to a third party without first notifying NorwayDomain and providing updated contact details.
- ✕Transfer to another registrar — the domain cannot be moved to a different registrar directly. It must first be formally released from the NorwayDomain trustee service.
- ✕Use in violation of Norwegian law or Norid rules — any such use will result in immediate suspension without refund.
- ✕Allowing third parties to use the domain without informing NorwayDomain and ensuring they are bound by these terms.
Clients who receive legal inquiries or complaints relating to the domain must notify NorwayDomain immediately. Failure to do so may result in suspension of the service.
Renewal & Cancellation
Your domain is registered annually. NorwayDomain will send a renewal reminder up to 60 days before your registration month, containing the renewal amount, due date and payment link.
To cancel, you must notify us in writing at least 30 days before your registration month. Cancellations received after this deadline may result in a further annual charge being raised, as the domain will already have been renewed with Norid on your behalf.
All registration and renewal fees are non-refundable once a domain has been registered or renewed. This is because the costs are immediately passed through to Norid and cannot be recovered from the registry.
Non-payment after the invoice due date will be treated as a lapse of the agreement. NorwayDomain reserves the right to cancel or transfer the domain without further notice in such cases.
Transfer & Moving to Another Registrar
If you wish to transfer the domain to another .no registrar, the process is as follows:
Step 1 — You must first obtain a valid Norwegian organisation number or Norid-approved personal ID. NorwayDomain will then arrange a formal ownership transfer to that ID at a standard transfer fee.
Step 2 — Once the transfer of holder is complete, you may move the domain to any other Norid-accredited registrar.
After the domain leaves the NorwayDomain service, all associated DNS zones, nameserver configurations and account files will be deleted from our systems. It is the client’s responsibility to back up any DNS configuration before initiating a transfer.
Proforma clients (those without a Norwegian org. number or PID) cannot move the domain to another registrar directly. The holder transfer step above must be completed first.
Responsibility & Liability
NorwayDomain will provide support and information to registered clients as part of the service. However, NorwayDomain accepts no financial or legal liability for:
- ✕Technical incidents, supplier outages or force majeure events beyond our reasonable control.
- ✕Changes in Norid policy or Norwegian law that affect the availability or conditions of .no domains.
- ✕Loss or damage arising from the client’s use of the domain, including third-party legal claims.
- ✕Failure to receive renewal notices due to incorrect or outdated contact information held on file.
It is the client’s responsibility to keep contact information accurate and up to date at all times. NorwayDomain cannot guarantee delivery of renewal notices or support communications if the email address or other contact details on file are incorrect.
Privacy & GDPR
All client information is stored and processed in accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable Norwegian privacy law. Your data is used solely for administering your domain service — we do not share, sell or pass your information to unrelated third parties.
WHOIS privacy is enabled by default for all domains managed under the NorwayDomain trustee service. Our organisational details appear in the public Norid registry rather than your personal information.
You may request deletion or correction of your data at any time by contacting us at contact@norwaydomain.no.
Governing Law
This agreement is governed by Norwegian law and the rules of Norid (the Norwegian domain registry authority), as amended from time to time. Any disputes arising from this agreement shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the Norwegian courts.
NorwayDomain reserves the right to update these terms when required by changes in law, Norid policy or operational necessity. Clients will be informed of material changes by email. Continued use of the service following notification constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
We are happy to explain any clause in plain language before you order.
